Health promotion takes place on three separate levels. Promoting health at the primary level is for healthy people (Hanson et al., 2019). The premise of this level is that prevention is preferable to cure. Disease prevention strategies are implemented at this level. They consist of routine physicals and vaccines. Maintaining physical fitness and promoting community health are other preventative actions. The secondary level emphasizes the early identification and management of the disease. Examples of secondary health promotion are screening for diabetes or coronary artery disease. The intention is to stop the disease from progressing to more severe stages. Tertiary health promotion occurs when the disease has progressed to an advanced state. The objective of this stage is to enhance patients’ quality of life. Each level of health promotion requires different levels of education (Schuz et al., 2019). Primary education teaches the prevention of multiple diseases. Secondary and tertiary education focuses on the disease the individual is suffering.
